Everywhere I look, I see it all as God (Mool).
Nanak He is both tangible and abstract.
He is everywhere at every time.
God is the root/Mool.

Gur Key Shabd Mantar Mun Maan || a
Fully accept and obey the mantar (spiritual guidance) that is
in the Guru’s Shabad (enlightenment)
Mantar is Shabad/Banee/Guru
Mool + Mantar = the root message (of Sikhi) relating to the
foundational virtues of God (of Sikhi) as contained within
the Guru shabad. SGGS is about Godly virtues and
everything revolves around this basic philosophy.

- 1. Usage
- Meant for knowing/as a foundation/as an anchor of
Godly vitues in the Sikh mind.
- Root upon which the tree of Sikhi grows.
- Foundation upon which Sikh spirituality is built.

- God is defined in Virtues (Naam)
- Sikhi is to KNOW/UNDERSTAND/
DISCOURSE/APPRECIATE these virtues (Jup/Jaap)
- A Sikh is mindful of these virtues at all times
(Simran)
- Sikhi is to LIVE these virtues.
BECOME these virtues.
- Sikhi is UNIQUE. The God of Sikhi Is UNIQUE.
The practice of Sikhi is UNIQUE.
Living Sikhi is to live UNIQUELY.

- If we agree to refer to the preamble as ‘Mool Mantar’ it has to come from the application of the Gurbani Framework (Grammar-based and internal validity within Gurbani) :

- The only scripture in the world beginning with a numeral and a graphic = ੴ Ek Oangkar

ਏਕਸ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ਅਨੰਤ ॥ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਜਾਪਿ ਏਕ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥
ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਏਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ॥ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਿਆਪਿ ॥
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ਏਕ ਤੇ ਭਏ ॥ ਏਕੁ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਪਰਾਛਤ ਗਏ ॥
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਕੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੮॥੧੯॥
Eko Jup Eko Salaha. Ek Simar Eko Mun Aha.
Eks Kay Gun Gao Anunt. Mun Tan Jaap Ek Bhagwant.
Eko Ek Ek Har Aap. Pooran Poor Raheyo Prabh Biaap.
Anuk Nisthar Ek Tay Bhaye. Ek Aradh Prachat Gaye.
Mun Tan Antar Ek Prabh Raata. Gurparsaad Nanak Ek Jaata.
Realise and know, sing the innumerable praises of The One
who is the One Creator of all. All our woes will vanish by
this realisation which is attained by the blessing of the shabad
guru. (and Nanak has realised this)

ਖਾਲਕੁ ਖਲਕ ਮਹਿ ਖਲਕ ਵਸੈ ਰਬ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
ਮੰਦਾ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਜਾਂ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੭੫॥
Fareeda Khalak Khaluk mein, Khaluk Vesi Rubb Mahe.
Manda Kis No Aakhiyeah Ja Tis Bin Koyee Nahe.
Farid says the Creator dwells in All Humanity.
How can we call anyone bad if He dwells within?

ਅਵਲਿ ਅਲਹ ਨੂਰੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਬੰਦੇ ॥
ਏਕ ਨੂਰ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਕਉਨ ਭਲੇ ਕੋ ਮੰਦੇ ॥੧
ਲੋਗਾ ਭਰਮਿ ਨ ਭੂਲਹੁ ਭਾਈ ॥
ਖਾਲਿਕੁ ਖਲਕ ਖਲਕ ਮਹਿ ਖਾਲਿਕੁ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਠਾਂਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਾਟੀ ਏਕ ਅਨੇਕ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਜੀ ਸਾਜਨਹਾਰੈ ॥
ਨਾ ਕਛੁ ਪੋਚ ਮਾਟੀ ਕੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਨਾ ਕਛੁ ਪੋਚ ਕੁੰਭਾਰੈ ॥੨॥
Avall Allah Noor Upaya Kudrat Key Sabh Bandey.
Ek Noor Tey Sabh Jugg Upjeya Kaon Bhalay Jo Mandey.
Loga Bhrum Na Bhulo Bhayee. Khaluk Khalak Khalak Mein
Khaluk Poor Raheyo Srab Thaeen.
Mattee Ek Anayk Bhant Kar Sajee Sirjanharey. Na Kach Poch
Mattee Key Bhandy Na Kach Poch Khumbarey.
Kabir says O people do not be misled. The truth is that He
the Creator is in all His Creation. All are created from the
same primal source, so who is good or bad? All created from
same source yet are diverse.
The same verse ends with
ਅਲਹੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਲਖਿਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਗੁੜੁ ਦੀਨਾ ਮੀਠਾ ॥
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੰਕਾ ਨਾਸੀ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੪॥੩॥
Allah Alakh Na Jayee Lakahiya Gur Gurr Deena Meetha. Keh
Kabeer Meri Shanka Nasee Sarab Niranjan Deedtha.
Kabeer says he is convinced that Allah or Alakh, is same as he
sees the same One Creator in all.

ਸਚਾ ਸਉਦਾ ਹਟੁ ਸਚੁ ਰਤਨੀ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
Eka Banee Ek Gur Eko Shabad Vichaaar.
Sauda Hatt Sach Ratnee Bharey Bhandaar.
One Banee, One Guru/ One Shabd to contemplate on.
Godly Merchandise (Sacha Sauda) is Godly Spirituality
(Ratnee) that is be attained from God (Hatt Sach/true shop) as
the source.

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਜਿਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਚੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ॥
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਬੋਲੈ ਸਚੁ ਕੂੜਾ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਵਈ ॥
Pauree. Jinaa Ander Koor Vartey Sach Na Bhavayee.
Jey Ko Boley Sach Koora Jal Javayee.
Those who don’t accept sach (God) are koor /devoid of sach
Acceptance of God will exterminate this condition
Definition of Koor = No Centrality of One/Presence of
Duality

ਕੂੜ ਭਗਏ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਨਸੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਚਿ ਭਰੇ ॥
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਧਰੇ ॥
Koor Geyeey Dobidha Nasee Pooran Sach Bharey.
Parbhram Prabh Sevdey Mun Andur Ek Dharey
Koor of do-bidha (two) vanishes when sach of one prevails
Dobidha = Do (2) + Method
(the essence of Sikhi : ONE = NO duality or trinity)

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਾਝੁ ਕੂੜੋ ਕੂੜੁ ॥੧॥

Tudh Bajh = Devoid of the One You
Ek = Transcendental Supreme Being
- Understanding the ONE GOD of Sikhi
- SGGS begins with a Graphic Representation = ੴ Ek Oangkar followed by 7 Root Descriptions of the ONE Creator
- Numeral can only have One meaning (as opposed to the trinity in other religions)
- Semantically ੴ = Ek + Oang + Kar
Ek = One
Oang = (Ordain+Sustain+Destroy)
Kar = all pervaiding
