Nanak Vigsey Veyparvah

- Note : This concluding verse tells us that the context of this 3rd Pauree is Hukm.
Implications
- Hukm exists.
This dramatic command is the spiritual genius of Guru Nanak – his is the first spiritual mind that puts across this philosophy (both scientifically and logically). The sages in the centuries before that did not conceive such an equation that the realization of the Creator within us is the realization of the Hukm.
- Hukm exists within Creation.
Every atom, every grain that exists has Hukm of the Creator confined within it.
- Hukm is the driving force within Creation.
Not a single aota exists without the Hukm.
- The Creator is within us in the form of Hukm.
This realization is vital to living with the neighbour of our soul – coming to terms with this understanding will bring us peace
- The Creator is within Creation.
- Realization of Hukm is the realization of the Creator.
The journey from me to you – shortest but most difficult realization
Nanak Hukmey Jey Bujhey Ta Haomai Kahey Na Koye
Questions
- Does the Creator VIOLATE His own Hukm?
(SGGS 144 Vaar Majh Kee Tatha Salok M : 1)
Sacha Tera Hukm Gurmukh Janaeya.
Gurmutte Aaap Gvayey Sach Pehchaneya.
Sacha – Permanently in Existance
Gurmukh Janeya – the guru’s message, through his own enlightenment
- The first virtue to accept is that The Creator is permanently in
existance.
In this verse, sacha is used for Hukm as apart from the Creator.
Hence the guru here ascertains that as being permanently in
existance, Hukm cannot be changed.
- So the Sikh also has to accept that the Guru too does not violate the
Hukm – the concept of keramaat (miracles) is therefore not valid as Hukm is permanent and unchangeable.
- The guru is in fact diminishing his own identity and status :
Gurmutte Aaap Gvayey Sach Pehchaneya.
So all sakhis etc in the 35 classical books written after the demise of
Guru Gobind Singh related to the gurus that claim miracles are just
fables and unacceptable and we have been misled by the so called
clergy dominating the scene
- Does the Guru VIOLATE His Hukm?
(SGGS 145 Vaar Majh Kee Tatha Salok M : 1) the same Vaar
Akhan Vekhan Bolan Chalan Jiwan Marna Dhaat.
Hukm Saaj Hukmey Vich Rakhey Nanak Sacha Aap.
Jiwan – life
Dhaat – essence
The true Creator who is in existance and His Hukm is permanent.
Whole life process is created in His Hukm; maintained in His Hukm.
- Is the Creator Subject to His Own Hukm?
Guru Nanak’s answer is in the next verse :
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥੩॥
Nanak Vigsey Veyparvah
Nanak – Nanak’s assertion
Vigsey – Literally goes about; operates
Veyparvah – Literally without care; regardless
Nanak, the Creator Himself operates above His own Hukm.
Our spirituality is maintained by our realization that Hukm is the notion of the will of God operating for the human being within the confines of the human intellect and this intellect is within the parameters of Hukm. However the Creator has given us choices which have consequences – but since this is spirituality we do not know how to make choices – so the guru enlightens us on the choices and actions that are all within us. Our thoughts and actions have immediate consequences. Hukm is for spiritual choices not physical actions. The guru is the shabad and the Gurbani /shabad enlightens us as to the correct spiritual choices and this brings about our transformation leading to our emancipation and bliss
The Pointers
- Hukm is the most intricate and difficult of all Sikhi Concepts
- It is also FOUNDATIONAL
- Due to our ignorance on the true message of Gurbani, the so called clergy has been feeding us stories and fables that highlight miracles (thus violating Hukm) as they can have power over us with the notion that they can change Hukm and that they can give solutions to our problems (similar to the Pandits and Brahmins).
- This basic truth of Hukm has been overshadowed
- Establishes the UNIQUENESS of SIKHI
- REDEFINES the whole spectrum of Spirituality
- REPAINTS the entire Canvas of Spirituality
- DEMOLISHES the pillars of EXISTING CANVAS
